Matthew Robert Niemann – 1/21/70 to 2/21/18 – survived by sons Matthew II and Cody; mother Karen Amos Niemann; father George Niemann and stepmother Elizabeth; sister Toni Niemann; and grandsons Matthew III and Ashton. Matt was a skilled tile setter who took great pride in his work and was a jack-of-all-trades handyman. He was an admired speaker and a steadfast source of support for those struggling with addictions. Always a jokester, he could make anyone laugh, no matter how he himself was feeling. A lover of almost any sport, particularly football, he seldom could be pried away from TV on Sundays, especially if his favorite San Diego Chargers were playing or there was a Nascar race going on. His idea of dressing up was wearing one of his many football jerseys. No matter how tough things got, he always held onto his faith in Jesus Christ. He was deeply loved by his family and friends. A celebration of life service will be held on Monday, March 5, 2018, at 6:30 p.m., at Indiana Funeral Care Harry W. Moore Chapel, 8147 Allisonville Road, Indianapolis, IN 46250. The family will greet friends from 4:30 until the time of service. In lieu of flowers, contributions in Matt’s name may be made to A Pathway to Recovery, 2135 N. Alabama Street, Indianapolis, IN 46221.

Matt reminded me of my brother. I got to know Matt in recovery. He was always joking, and laughing and full of life. He taught me that I didn’t need to take myself to seriously. He also loved the book Sermon On The Mount. He told me about that book when I was early in recovery so I ordered it, read it, and I soon found out why he loved it too. I will always miss you brother, but I know and am grateful you are in heaven as one of God’s Angels looking down, and watching over all of us. I will see you again one day I know that for sure. I know because that’s what the Lord Jesus Christ promises me.

Matt was my first best friend. I’m happy that he no longer has to deal with the flesh and now can live eternally in Spirit with our Lord Jesus Christ in Heaven. So many memories flood my mind. Sketching hot rods, building mechanical legos, reading Mad magazine and hanging out. His drawings were amazing. Although we went our separate ways, it was like childhood again when we would run into eachother. My prayers go out to the Lord for his family. See you another day my dear friend. 💘

I knew Matt through Karen, and I hired him to do a small project for me. He did a good job for me. I knew he was struggling with some tough issues in the last part of his life, but he remained to be a nice guy. His death is really unexpected, and I wonder why God has a plan like this. However I will remember him, and believe he is in a much better place now.

My condolences to Matt’s family. He was a best friend from my youth, my brother from another mother. I am thankful for the many fun, good times we had. He was one of the realest people I know, he would always tell it like it is. I wish I would’ve spent more time with him these last 10 years. I know he did lots of good help to the AA groups. We’ve all lost a good man. I’m glad I can find comfort in knowing that he knew the Lord and Savior Jesus Christ and that he is with Them now in Heaven.

I met Matt years ago at an AA meeting. He sat in a packed meeting starring at me and I had no idea why. I had never met or seen him before. All of a sudden he got up and walked towards me and handed me a napkin and left. I opened the napkin slowly and kind of embaressed that 100 people saw him hand me a note. It read” You have the most beautiful blue eyes and here is my number and I want you to text me immediately. We became instant friends. He and Cody came to my house one night for dinner and afterwards Cody was fussy and sleepy and that beautiful little boy crawled into my dogs kennel and curled up together with my dog and fell asleep. It was one of the most beautiful things I ever saw and my heart is heavy with the loss of a beautiful man.

I was blessed to know Matt through my recovery. When I met him I thought he was probably the craziest person I’d ever met, but he soon became my go to guy when I was struggling. It saddens me to know he is no longer here, but I take great comfort knowing he is know longer suffering. I will miss our crazy conversations, even though it has been some time since we last spoke. I will always credit his great advice and carry his words with me. Much love and prayers to his family, especially his beautiful boys.

So, so sorry! I am just finding out about Matt’s passing! Messed me up! Matt was so polite, wel-mannered, approachable, humbled, grateful and always smiling! I am at a loss for words, other than to say that I’m truly sorry! May God continue to give you the comfort that you need, at any given moments when it is needed! Thank you Pathway for all you do for everybody! I will always be grateful for Pathway to Recovery in all you did for me! ❤️

Matt, over the years you always had my back no matter what. You stayed behind me and we were friends for a very very long time. My Grandmother and my Mom always mentioned when you they needed you at Grannys house and you would come over and help out. You were always there for me and my family. This truly hurts so much with everything you have to leave behind. You had way too much going for you after coming so far and this just wasnt fair. May God Bless your soul and may your family have peace. Love you man Bobby Ferguson.
